Abhivyakti (Theatre Wing)

Overview

Abhivyakti, the theatre wing of Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), is a vibrant platform dedicated to using the art of nukkad natak (street theatre) to convey socio-legal messages. This initiative leverages performance art as a unique method for communicating important legal and social issues, making complex topics accessible and engaging to diverse audiences. The theatre wing’s activities include on-campus performances, participation in theatre competitions, and collaboration with Team LSC (Legal Services Committee) on various legal awareness drives.

Objective

Use Nukkad Natak performances to address and highlight important sociolegal issues, raising awareness and fostering dialogue among audiences. Provide an engaging and informative experience that helps audiences understand legal concepts and social issues through creative and impactful performances. Work with Team LSC and other legal awareness drives to integrate theatrical performances into broader educational and advocacy efforts, enhancing the reach and effectiveness of legal awareness campaigns.

The GNLU Legal Services Committee has been set up in the year 2007 by way of Section 4(k) of the Legal Service Authorities Act, 1987 which reads as "Develop, in consultation with the Bar Council of India, programs for clinical legal education and promote guidance and supervise the establishment and working of legal services clinics in universities, law colleges and other institutions". The Legal Aid Cell (or committee, as is the practice now), established under statutory law provides assistance through a variety of methods, including traditional casework, summary advice, self-help, community legal education, community development and policy reform initiatives.
