Community Counselling Drive

Overview

The GNLU LSC initiated the Community Counselling Drives with the Women’s Counselling Drive on 29th September 2022 for the first time. Subsequent Drives were conducted in the Koba Village, Gandhinagar Takula in collaboration with the ‘Ahmedabad Women’s Action Group (AWAG)’ NGO. The focus of the drive is to combat domestic violence and to impart knowledge and awareness about alternate dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms to ensure quick and effective pursuance of justice and relied.

Objective

The primary aim of the drive is to empower women belonging to rural and urban areas, those whose houses are tainted from violence and abuse, to help them free themselves from such situations. Additionally, the drive also seeks to establish a support group among these women to share resources, knowledge and assistance through involvement of NGO’s and local agencies working for upliftment of women. The core objective remains to educate women on various dispute redressal mechanisms and introduce educational and work programs to facilitate their independence while systematically reach conclusion of issues faced.

The GNLU Legal Services Committee has been set up in the year 2007 by way of Section 4(k) of the Legal Service Authorities Act, 1987 which reads as "Develop, in consultation with the Bar Council of India, programs for clinical legal education and promote guidance and supervise the establishment and working of legal services clinics in universities, law colleges and other institutions". The Legal Aid Cell (or committee, as is the practice now), established under statutory law provides assistance through a variety of methods, including traditional casework, summary advice, self-help, community legal education, community development and policy reform initiatives.
