Overview

Nyaaya is an open access, digital resource that provides simple, actionable, reliable and accessible legal information to all Indians, helping you solve your day-today legal problems so that you are aware of your rights and feel empowered to seek justice. Nyaaya has been incubated under the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy. GNLU LSC signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Nyaaya under which GNLU sought to assist Nyaaya in solving socio-legal queries raised through their online helpline, through a dedicated research team on a regular basis. This initiative works totally on a remote basis and caters to people from all across the country.

Objective

This collaboration aims to expand the reach of GNLU’s legal services to the entire country through the online medium. The GNLU Legal Services Committee has been set up in the year 2007 by way of Section 4(k) of the Legal Service Authorities Act, 1987 which reads as "Develop, in consultation with the Bar Council of India, programs for clinical legal education and promote guidance and supervise the establishment and working of legal services clinics in universities, law colleges and other institutions". The Legal Aid Cell (or committee, as is the practice now), established under statutory law provides assistance through a variety of methods, including traditional casework, summary advice, self-help, community legal education, community development and policy reform initiatives.
